Garfield Township is located in the western part of Mackinac County and is marked on its southern border by the Lake Michigan shoreline. In fact, the northern-most point of Lake Michigan is designated by a marker just three miles east of Naubinway. The Township covers 137.2 square miles, of which 25 square miles are primarily used for agricultural. Dairy farms, beef cattle farms, and those growing small grains can be found here. Historically speaking, agriculture, commercial fishing and lumbering have been the main enterprises found in Garfield Township, although today recreation and tourism have rose to great importance in the local economy. Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club covers 35,000 acres and its members enjoy the same beautiful surroundings and abundant hunting and fishing opportunities as all who visit the Township.
